Presteigne is well known for presenting concerts that provide an eclectic mixture of world-class music.
As part of the 15th annual ‘Early Music in the Marches’ weekend its musical director, David Hatcher, has brought together members of the Marches Baroque Orchestra to present six of the twelve ‘concerti grossi’ that are G.F. Handel’s well-loved Opus VI.
These magnificent and diverse works have been continually performed, by orchestras of all sizes, since they were premiered between 1739 and 1740. Rarely, however, do we get the opportunity to hear them performed by early music specialists.
In addition, we will be privileged to hear them presented as chamber pieces with the musicians playing one to a part, on baroque instruments with gut strings and without a conductor.
On violin are: Maria Becker, David Lewis, Malu Lin Swayne and Kelly McCusker, on viola: Kate Fawcett, cello: David Hatcher: double bass: Peter McCarthy and on harpsichord: Hilary Norris.
