To celebrate the publication of Kaikhosru Sorabji's Letters to Philip Heseltine (Peter Warlock) ed. Brian Inglis and Barry Smith, this event combines music by both composers with an introductory talk and readings. Sorabji's passionate Sonata No 1 for piano and Peter Warlock's quirky Folksong Preludes will be played by Gabriel Keen, while Mark Oldfield and Christopher Scobie will perform a selection of Warlock's much-loved songs.
Brian Inglis is a musicologist and composer; he is a Senior Lecturer and BA Music Programme Leader at Middlesex University. Brian studied music at the University of Durham and City University, London, gaining the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers' Prize in 1993, and a PhD in composition and analysis in 1999. His edition (with Barry Smith) of Kaikhosru Sorabji's Letters to Philip Heseltine (Peter Warlock) was published by Routledge in summer 2019. He is a fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy, and recently joined the editorial board of the Journal of the Royal Musical Association.

Mark Oldfield was born in Sheffield and grew up in Suffolk. Graduating from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Opera School of the Royal College of Music, he made his debut as Onegin touring for Scottish Opera. Mark's versatile lyric baritone secured him an international career as a soloist in a broad repertoire and his interest to explore both singing and acting led him to work in opera, music theatre and devised theatre pieces with an array of companies that include Opera Factory Zurich, ROH Covent Garden, La Monnaie Brussels, New Israeli Opera, Transparant Antwerp and Opera Circus.
Mark now divides his time between performing in concerts and his roles in education and community projects. He teaches singing and is a visiting lecturer at Middlesex University [BA Music], teaches singing at RADA [BA Acting], is Creative Director of Workshops for Streetwise Opera and acts as vocal coach for several choirs.
Christopher Scobie was born in Portsmouth in 1983. He studied music at the University of Bristol and composition at City University, London. He regularly performs chamber music of all forms and genres and has appeared as soloist in Gerald Finzi's Eclogue and Constant Lambert's The Rio Grande.
