Each year the Windsor and Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra runs a competition for Young Musicians. Two of the talented performers in 2019 were Emily Ambrose and Oliver Simpson. We are delighted to present these two brilliant young stars of the future in a concert showcasing their talents.
Emily Ambrose (bassoon) is a music scholar at Marlborough College. She attends the Junior Department of The Royal Academy of Music, studying bassoon with Jo Baillie-Stark and recorder with Barbara Law. A keen orchestral player, Emily is a member of The National Youth Orchestra. Previously she played with The National Children’s Orchestra for five years. Since then she has played with The National Youth Chamber Orchestra, City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra and this summer took part in Opera North's Orchestra Academy.
Emily is very grateful to receive support from both The Cherubim Trust and The Ewelme Trust.
Oliver Simpson (cello) is also a music scholar, at Abingdon School. He achieved Grade 8 Distinction at the age of ten after only starting the cello at the age of seven. He was principal cello with the National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain for five years, where he also held the prestigious Leverhulme Scholarship.
Oliver's recent competition successes include winning the Reading Symphony Orchestra Young Musician of the Year 2019, winning the South of England Regional Final of the Rotary Young Musician of the Year 2019 competition and receiving the Runner-up prize in the National Final.
He is shortly to perform both the Dvorák and Elgar cello concertos.
Oliver is very grateful to receive support from the Awards For Young Musicians.
