Beethoven contextualised by his contemporaries. Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra Associate Concertmasters Anna-Liisa Bezrodny and Charlotte Scott, together with Diana Ketler, bring us the ‘Appassionata’-tinged tenth violin sonata by Beethoven’s pupil, the diligent yet driven Ferdinand Ries. Outpourings of lyricism from Kreutzer and Paganini mingle with the concision of Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No 8 and the serenity of his last, No 10. Both are works of touching, soothing sensibility and both contain thrilling rustic elements too: a charging moto perpetuo in the former, and a charming scherzo in the latter.

The concert is scheduled to end at approximately 21.30
