  1. String Quartet in C, 'Bird' Op 33 No 3 - (Franz) Joseph Haydn
  2. String Quartet No 19 in C major, 'Dissonance' K 465 - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

“A father, having resolved to send his children out into the world, felt that he should entrust them to the protection and guidance of a famous Man who by good fortune was also his best Friend.” These words of gracious thanks are those with which Mozart dedicates six of his string quartets to Joseph Haydn — the ‘father’ of the genre, and the man who inspired Wolfgang’s own quartet writing.

The fabulous Brompton Quartet perform Haydn’s Op 33 No 3 String Quartet in C major, alongside Mozart’s ‘Dissonance’ Quartet, K 465, one of the six ‘Haydn Quartets’. Introduced from the stage with excerpts of letters and storytelling, spend your morning exploring the friendship between two of classical music’s most loved composers.
