  1. Alborada del gracioso, from Miroirs - Maurice Ravel
  2. Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D Op 61 - Ludwig van Beethoven
  3. Also sprach Zarathustra Op 30 - Richard Strauss

Dawn breaks in Spain and a jester’s morning dance is underway in Ravel’s lively and sultry orchestral miniature. We are delighted to welcome Tim Crawford to perform Beethoven’s much-loved violin concerto with us. Another sunrise follows in the rousing and recognisable opening to Also sprach Zarathustra, based on Nietzsche’s philosophical work of the same name and used in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey. Quoting from Nietzsche, ‘Without music, life would be a mistake’.

This concert has been made possible by the kind and generous legacy of Frank Long, a long-time supporter and helper of Forest Philharmonic.
