This concert is part of La Belle Époque, A French Weekend Festival of Chamber Music and Song from France's Golden Age. In collaboration with the University of Sheffield.

Energy and vitality counteract a degree of poignancy in this concert. Debussy’s Violin Sonata was the composer’s last completed work and the premiere in 1917 was his final performance. It’s a restless piece with the “breathlessness of a mortally wounded bird, which has a beauty and pathos of its own.”* Ravel’s Violin and Cello Sonata was dedicated to the memory of Debussy and its relentless drive makes it an arresting homage.

*Martin Cooper, music historian

“Eleven international musicians, brimming with body and soul with passion, vitality and virtuosity, whose performances never cease to amaze” The Independent
