  3. String Quartet No 15 in A minor Op 132 - Ludwig van Beethoven

The Marmen Quartet, named after its leader, was formed at the Royal College of Music in 2013, and has rapidly established a reputation as one of the most impressive young quartets. They joined with the Sacconi Quartet to perform Mendelssohn's Octet in St Peter's in 2016, and we immediately decided to invite them back.

They are about to launch their first complete cycle of Beethoven string quartets, and for this concert bring us one of his greatest late works, one of the pinnacles of the repertoire. Philip Glass wrote his third quartet in 1985, originally as part of the soundtrack for the film ‘Mishima’, about the life of a famous Japanese writer; it uses characteristically subtle but compelling musical effects.
