  3. String Quartet No 12 in F major, 'American' Op 96 - Antonín Dvorák

Arguably the finest string quartet in Britain, the Endellion perform works spanning almost a hundred years. A masterpiece of form, Haydn’s ‘The Sunrise’ was written a year before Beethoven started to compose quartets, and completed after a London tour when it was named by his adoring public. Beethoven’s the 'Harp’ is so-called after the arpeggio pizzicato passages in its first movement, while the 'American’ was written during Dvorak’s residence in America and has elements of both American and Slavic styles.

‘Poise, true intonation, excellent balance and beautiful tone’

This concert is sponsored by Gareth and Pauline Stainer.

Please note the earlier start time. Following this concert there will be Morris and country dancing outside as part of the Church’s Patronal Festival. The famous Abbots Bromley Horn Dance will take place at approximately 10.15pm.
