  3. Czech Suite Op 39 - Antonín Dvorák

Join us for a joyous and uplifting summer concert with dance inspired music from Bartok, Dvorák and Beethoven. We are one of the first events in this year's Letchworth Festival.

Bartok's Rumanian Dances are based on 7 tunes from Transylvania, each very short, but building from a slow stick dance, through to the wild final 'fast dance', all in the space of 5 minutes. Dvorák also included folk dances in his Czech Suite. He starts with a stunningly beautiful Pastorale, then weaves faster and slower movements before his final boisterous 'Furiant'.

'My little symphony in F' is how Beethoven described his 8th Symphony, which feels far from little to play! Writtten in 1812 at a time when there were a lot of challenges in his life, not least he was becoming increasingly deaf, it has a very cheerful and uplifting mood, plus an awful lot of notes for the violins! Beethoven conducted the premiere and reportedly 'the orchestra largely ignored his ungainly gestures and followed the principal violinist instead...' Conductor Rowan Baker will be hoping the Letchworth Sinfonia are far better behaved.....
