  1. Symphony No 3, 'Sinfonia espansiva' Op 27 - Carl Nielsen
  2. Symphony No 3, ' Pastoral' - Ralph Vaughan Williams

Fulham Symphony Orchestra explore two contrasting soundscapes from the early twentieth century in their summer concert. Carl Nielsen's Third Symphony, 'Espansiva', is an exultant vision which combines violent gusts of energy with moments of idyllic calm. Unusually, Nielsen included wordless parts for soprano and baritone soloists in the tranquil second movement, which will be performed by Rebecca Lea and Greg Skidmore. This work will be followed by Ralph Vaughan Williams's much loved but often misunderstood Third Symphony. Known as the 'Pastoral' this symphony provides a subtle and poignant meditation on nature and the composer's experiences during the First World War. Rebecca Lea will return in the fourth movement to perform another haunting wordless soprano line.

One of London’s finest amateur orchestras, Fulham Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1958 and performs regularly in London with internationally renowned soloists.
