Music Celebrations International presents American's In Liverpool: A Musical Extravaganza - a tribute to American, European and British music from classical to The Beatles featuring
St Joseph High School Symphony Orchestra and Band from Michigan, USA
with Burke Lokey and Aaron Engleman (directors)
and special guests from Liverpool
CPC Symphony Orchestra
Alex Costello (director)
“Tchaikovsky meets the Beatles in a cornucopia of delights” is the only way to describe this delightful concert in the magnificent, but rarely used Concert Room of St George’s Hall, as intended by architects Harvey Lonsdale Elmes and Sir Charles Cockerell, who designed the building in 1854.
The concert features the 100 musicians of the St Joseph High School Symphony Orchestra and Band from Michigan, USA, directed by Burke Lokey and Aaron Engleman. This group of highly talented students have won praise throughout the mid-western United States, and produce a sound that would do credit to many professional orchestras. St Joseph's musicians are on a concert tour of the UK and are thrilled to be in the Beatles home city of Liverpool.
Very special guests are Liverpool CPC Music with Director of Orchestra Alex Costello, MPhil, who is principal Flute with Liverpool Mozart Orchestra. CPC Music has been at the heart of the South Liverpool Music scene since 1988.
Grieg’s Peer Gynt suite and Gershwin’s Summertime are instantly recognisable, Holst’s St Paul’s Suite will have every foot tapping, and Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings never fails to bring a tear to the eye.
Match these with A Salute to the Big Bands, classic song tunes from Cole Porter and some of the best-known tunes from The Beatles, and you have an evening in which Liverpool and the New World come together in an atmosphere of relaxation and easy listening in the glorious surroundings of one of the world’s great neoclassical buildings.
Seating is unreserved and balcony seats will be allocated on first come first served basis. Interval refreshments will be available.
