  1. Overture, from Ruslan and Ludmilla - Mikhail Glinka
  2. Cello Concerto in A - Antonín Dvorák
  3. Codex (Homage to Serafini) - Tom Coult
  4. The Firebird Suite (1919) - Igor Stravinsky

Commencing with a high-octane opening, Glinka’s famous overture to his opera Ruslan and Ludmila sets the scene before the young and exciting Deutsche Grammophon artist, cellist Kian Soltani, performs one of the great Romantic concertos; Dvorák’s passionate Cello Concerto. Cristian Macelaru conducts Tom Coult’s Codex, a piece inspired from the fantastical works of artist Luigi Serafini, it’s a compendium of imaginary animals and landscapes designed to charm and mesmerize the listener. The dazzling orchestration and fairytale story within Stravinsky’s The Firebird Suite (1919) rounds out the 2018–2019 season with a breath-taking finale.

Tonight’s concert is supported by Resonate, a PRS Foundation initiative in partnership with the Association of British Orchestras, BBC Radio 3 and The Boltini Trust.
