  1. Concerto in D minor for 2 marimbas, after Concerto for keyboard and strings in D minor BWV 1052 - Johann Sebastian Bach, arranged by Tom Pritchard
  2. Symphony No 8 in C minor Op 65 - Dmitry Shostakovich

Sinfonia of Leeds presents a selection of orchestral masterpieces from the 18th to 20th centuries in the 2018/19 season of concerts.

We start the season with Bach’s D minor concerto for keyboard and strings, which is realised on 2 marimbas in a highly unusual interpretation performed by 2 outstanding students from the Amsterdam Conservatoire.

This is paired with Shostakovich’s 8th Symphony, one of his most tragic and dramatic compositions. Shostakovich said of this symphony, in spite of everything. 'life is beautiful'.
