The Royal Free Singers will be performing three Bach masterpieces associated with the Advent and Christmas season, in the tranquil setting of the characterful local Parish Church. They are delighted to welcome organist, Luke Bond, Assistant Director of Music at St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, who performed at the Royal Wedding in May, to accompany them.

Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland was composed in Weimar for the first Sunday in Advent and was first performed in December, 1714. Bach structured the cantata in six movements, beginning with a chorale fantasia, followed by a series of alternating recitatives and arias, and concluded by a four part chorale.

Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme is regarded as one of Bach's most mature and popular sacred cantatas. He composed the chorale cantata in Leipzig and first performed it in November, 1731.

The joyous Magnificat was first performed on Christmas Day in Leipzig in 1733.
