This concert, part of the 'Late Music' series in York, marks the start of the Fitzwilliam String Quartet’s 50th anniversary season. Included in the programme is Shostakovich's 13th Quartet, a work which the Fitzwilliam gave the first western performance of in York in the presence of the composer. The quartet will be joined by Lesley Schatzberger in a performance of the Brahms Clarinet Quintet as a tribute to Alan Hacker who would have been 90 this year. Well known for championing young composers, the Fitzwilliam will also be giving two world premieres.
