To celebrate 100 years of the Royal Air Force, the 45 piece orchestra Birmingham Symphonic Winds have devised a programme for all to enjoy titled Centenary! From the 1918 Biplanes and the Spitfires of WWII through to the Red Arrows of today, Birmingham Symphonic Winds will take you on a musical journey that will thrill, reflect and excite in one short evening concert.

With the RAF March Past, Dam Busters March, Those magnificent men in their flying machines all set to get your feet tapping, the concert concludes with a selection of Glenn Miller tunes in true swing style. Other pieces being performed have been composed over the years for the RAF Music Service and include Scramble (Nigel Hess), Ad Astra (Joseph Horovitz) and Diamond Nine (Duncan Stubbs) – the evening also pays tribute to the birth of the composer Leonard Bernstein who was born in 1918 with short pieces that include tunes from West Side Story.
