Music for Advent | Newbury Chamber Choir

A double bill of mystical choral music celebrating the Nativity,: we contrast the Renaissance splendour of Tomas Luis De Victoria's sixteenth century Mass with the contemporary energy of “Yaldo” written this year especially for the choir.

Yaldo means 'the birth' or 'the nativity', and in this cantata the familiar Christmas story is told in a mixture of languages, alternating Scriptural narrative with reflective hymns from the earliest days of the Church. James Maunders is a fascinating Newbury-based composer with successes at home and abroad. The choir is joined by an instrumental ensemble including flute, guitar, saxophone and percussion.
