Double bassist Owen Nicolaou presents a programme of music from the 18th to the 20th century, showcasing the solo potential of the double bass through music by Handel, JS Bach, Bottesini and others.

Owen Nicolaou started studying the double bass when he was sixteen years old, and after only two years learning the instrument was offered a place as an undergraduate student at the Royal College of Music. In September 2018, he began postgraduate study at the Royal Academy and he has taken up a place on the Philharmonia Orchestra’s String Fellowship Programme. Nicolaou is passionate about chamber music and is a founding member of the Bridgetower Ensemble, a London group dedicated to exploring the well-known as well as rare repertoire for chamber formations, including the double bass.

The Foundling Museum's classical concerts feature a wide range of performers and repertoire, inspired by the story of the Foundling Hospital and some of its most famous supporters - above all, Handel. Our Thursday Young Artists' Platform series showcases exceptional musicians at the start of their musical career, with the generous support of the Philharmonia Orchestra.
