  3. Quintet for piano and strings in A Op 81 - Antonín Dvorák

A delightful Mozart appetiser is the prelude to a Czech family affair. Dvorák’s Second Piano Quintet, featuring one of the composer’s most irresistible folk tunes, was an immediate success from its first performance in 1888. Czech folk and dance tunes can also be heard in Josef Suk’s Piano Quintet, a youthful piece with a beguiling blend of enthusiasm and melancholy. Five years after its composition, Suk married Dvorák’s eldest daughter!

“When it’s just me in that moment listening to the music, it’s very personal … and when you see the musicians in a smaller space, it’s so much more special!” John, Sheffield, autumn 2017
