  1. Mass in C minor, 'The Great' K 427 - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
  2. Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in A minor Op 54 - Robert Schumann
  3. Schicksalslied, 'Song of Destiny' Op 54 - Johannes Brahms

Lewisham Choral Society, Hackney Singers, London Mozart Players and an impressive array of soloists including soprano Elin Manahan Thomas perform Mozart's majestic C Minor Mass. The programme includes Brahms's lyrical Schicksalslied and Schumann's Piano Concerto . This concert marks a welcome return to the Southbank for the combined choir of over 300 voices, following three previous performances to a packed Festival Hall.

The musical breadth of Mozart’s Mass is dazzling: from the solemn Kyrie to the fast and furious Cum Sancto fugue and ravishing solo movements, this is undoubtedly one of Mozart’s greatest choral works. Brahms’s Schicksalslied too is a work of contrasts: a lyrical opening movement gives way to dramatic turbulence before a serene orchestral finale. Schumann’s sparkling Piano Concerto needs no introduction!

Elin Manahan Thomas, one of the most exceptional sopranos of her generation, has released five solo albums and sang last year at the wedding of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Soprano Helen Meyerhoff enjoys both the classical and contemporary repertoire. A finalist in a recent New York contemporary opera competition, she has given several UK and world premieres. Tenor Peter Davoren, an opera, oratorio and lieder singer, performs regularly with the Monteverdi Choir, making his Proms début with them in Monteverdi's Vespers. Bass Philip Tebb has performed many operatic and oratorio roles. He has sung with the Academy of Ancient Music in London, Bucharest and Venice and performs widely with choirs around the UK. Pianist Nico de Villiers has toured widely around the UK, USA, Europe and South Africa, as a recitalist, accompanist and vocal coach. Performances include the Warsaw Chopin and Johannesburg Mozart Festivals.

Celebrating their 70th Anniversary this year, the London Mozart Players are one of our finest chamber orchestras. They have worked with many prestigious artists, toured extensively worldwide and made numerous recordings.

Dan Ludford-Thomas is a talented conductor, teacher and director of several choirs, including Lewisham Choral Society and Hackney Singers. Dan worked on the BBC Series ‘The Choir’ and has recently been appointed as Director of the National Children’s Choir of Great Britain.

Hackney Singers and Lewisham Choral Society are among London’s most accomplished community choirs, tackling major works in the choral repertoire from ancient to modern. This is the fifth time the two choirs have joined forces since first performing together at the London Paralympic Games opening ceremony in 2012.
