  1. Vespers, 'All-night vigil' Op 37 - Sergey Rachmaninov
  2. Der Abend Op 34 No 1 - Richard Strauss

On Saturday 9th March, Anton Bruckner Choir returns to the beautiful St Clement Danes on The Strand to perform Rachmaninov’s Vespers - a setting of the All-Night Vigil. It is a haunting, reflective and deeply moving set of unaccompanied choral vespers expressing the composer’s deep and very personal religious faith. In this short concert, we are pairing the Vespers with Richard Strauss’s Der Abend (The evening), to continue the contemplative feel. This anthem is also unaccompanied, but divides the choir into 16 parts - the resulting sonority is remarkable. Both these pieces are well-suited to the atmosphere and acoustic of St Clement Danes and we’re really looking forward to singing them there.
