  2. English Dances (set 2) Op 33 - Sir Malcolm Arnold
  3. Pictures at an Exhibition - Modest Mussorgsky, orchestrated by Maurice Ravel

A concert to celebrate The Open University’s 50th anniversary. The OU Orchestra will be joined by the internationally famous percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie in a rarely heard percussion concerto by Jennifer Higdon. This work features more percussion than you will probably have seen on one stage at one time, played by Evelyn Glennie, three soloistic percussionists and timpanist alongside a full symphony orchestra. It is a piece of music theatre which demonstrates the emotional range of the percussion instruments in contrasting exciting, contemplative, lyrical , and exhilarating sections.

The second half of the concert will feature two works that showcase the instruments of this large orchestra - the popular Arnold English Dances Set 2 and Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.
