  1. Requiem Op 9 - Maurice Duruflé

  4. Les angélus, for voice and organ Op 57 - Louis Vierne

This fascinating programme brings together works from three very different traditions. Duruflé’s love of Gregorian plainchant shines through his understated, achingly lyrical Requiem mass, which will be performed alongside his friend Vierne’s enchanting songs, Les angélus, for mezzo-soprano and organ. John Tavener’s Svyati for choir and cello, written in memory of a friend, draws movingly on the colour and tradition of the Russian Orthodox church. Finally, The Power of Song by Max Bruch, is an impassioned, romantic hymn to the quasi-religious power of music itself.
