A programme specially crafted for the occasion by Bath Camerata’s guest conductor, the acclaimed English choral music specialist and former student of Herbert Howells, Paul Spicer. The centre piece for this concert is Bax’s Mater ora filium, a piece bursting with early 20th century musical imagination. It is coupled with Byrd’s sumptuous Five Part Mass – a late 16th century masterpiece and the work that inspired Bax to write his Mater ora filium more than 300 years later. This is a rare opportunity to hear these two very different works side by side.

The concert also features two modern Elizabethan madrigal recreations by Howells, Finzi’s beautiful set of part songs to poems by Robert Bridges, Britten’s regal Gloriana Dances and two extraordinary part songs by Stanford.
