  3. Singet dem Herrn BWV 225 - Johann Sebastian Bach

The Academy Choir Wimbledon, conducted by Matthew Best, will perform a concert featuring some of the most wonderful and virtuosic compositions of the baroque period. Vivaldi’s Gloria is rightly hugely popular with both choirs and audiences alike for its exuberance and joy, whilst Dixit Dominus (written when Handel was just 22) is a demanding and exciting 'tour de force' by a hugely dramatic composer demonstrating his mastery of the Italian baroque style. Simply put, JS Bach’s Singet dem Herrn is regarded as being amongst the very finest of his motets and is relatively rarely heard only because it, too, asks a great deal of its performers.

The choir continues its long association with the Academy Baroque Players, led by Alison Bury and comprising members drawn from the country's leading baroque ensembles. Our top class soloists include sopranos Rowan Pierce and Keri Fuge and countertenor James Hall.

Come and enjoy a glass of wine and an evening of stunning music performed by Wimbledon's local choir.

We look forward to seeing you there!
