Two musical cultures meet with a world premiere at the centre of a spectacular programme taking its inspiration from beyond Western Europe. Arya is an exciting new work composed and performed by the remarkable sitarist Jasdeep Singh Degun, with the Orchestra of Opera North.

Erkin’s Köçekçe Suite fuses Turkish folk traditions with western symphonic music. Sibelius’s joyful Karelia and mysterious Swan of Tuonela are steeped in Finnish folklore and atmosphere. His seventh and final symphony, filled with majestic beauty, closes the concert.
