  1. Overture, from L'Italiana in Algeri, 'The Italian Girl in Algiers' - Gioachino Rossini
  2. Notturno Op 70 No 1 - Giuseppe Martucci
  3. Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No 1 in G minor Op 26 - Max Bruch
  4. Symphony No 3 in E flat, 'Eroica' Op 55 - Ludwig van Beethoven

This concert is a perfect marriage of Italian and German orchestral favourites.

Rossini’s explosive Overture to The Italian Girl in Algiers provides a powerful opening, which gives way to Martucci’s lush and pensive Notturno No 1, with its yearning melodic lines and soothing orchestration.

A highlight of this evening is Bruch’s much-loved Violin Concerto No 1 performed by Italian violinist Francesca Dego. This piece unleashes the full spectrum of the instrument and to this day is one of the most popular works in the violin repertoire.

The concert climaxes with Beethoven’s victorious Symphony No 3, ‘Eroica’, iconic for its vast expressive range described in The Guardian’s list of 50 Greatest Symphonies as a 'set of variations that in one fell swoop reinvent the symphonic finale in a way that arguably only the last movement of Beethoven’s Ninth comes close to.'
