  2. String Quartet No 3 in B flat Op 67 - Johannes Brahms
  3. Quintet for piano and strings in G minor Op 57 - Dmitry Shostakovich

The up-and-coming Piatti Quartet make a welcome return to Conway Hall, joined by Director of Music Simon Callaghan to perform Shostakovich’s Piano Quintet, dating from 1940. They complete their richly varied programme with Brahm’s final essay in the genre and Turina’s folk-influenced ‘The bullfighter’s prayer’, originally composed for a quartet of ‘laúd’, Spanish folkloric instruments similar to mandolins.

Founded in the 1880s, our chamber music concert series is the longest-running of its kind in Europe. Conway Hall was purpose-built in 1929 to host concerts and lectures, and they have continued here until the present day. The ethos of 'affordable classical music for all' still remains.
