  1. Prelude and Liebestod, from Tristan und Isolde - Richard Wagner
  2. Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No 1 in E Flat S124 - Franz Liszt
  3. Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No 2 in A major S 125 - Franz Liszt
  4. Overture to Tannhäuser - Richard Wagner

Liszt and Wagner were the driving inspiration forso much that was new in nineteenth-century music. Wagner’s endlessly unresolved harmonies in Tristan and Isolde influenced composers for decades. Liszt’s two piano concertos compressed the traditional form into a single ever-changing sequence, transformed by breathtaking virtuosity and romantic eloquence. The groundbreaking orchestration of both composers will sound at its most revelatory on instruments of the time.
