Ante Terminum Productions is a recently-established cross-arts music and theatre company based in London. The company’s debut, last year, of Britten’s Curlew River at St Bartholomew the Great was praised by Rupert Christiansen of The Telegraph as “A beautiful, dedicated and moving production” and Richard Bratby of The Spectator as “a little pearl of a production… its emotional impact out of proportion to its scale”, and our production of Stockhausen’s Stimmung at the Pathology Museum was described by Radio 3’s Donald MacLeod as “without a doubt, one of the most powerful musical experiences I have had in the last decade”. Our recent St John Passion was described by Nicholas Riddle, CEO of Edition Peters, as an “excellent performance… spiritually moving and artistically very successful”.
This is Ante Terminum Productions most ambitious cross-arts site-specific production to date. It tells Monteverdi’s tragic love story of Tancredi and Clorinda. Tancredi, a crusader, and Clorinda, a Saracen, become lovers, and are separated by their peoples’ conflict. They meet in battle, and, being armoured, do not recognise one another during their fight until it's too late, and Tancredi has struck Clorinda down. In this production, Ante Terminum Productions has expanded Monteverdi’s original scene with other madrigals by the composer to make a longer narrative. The story is told through the music, through contemporary dance, with dancers playing the two protagonists, and through light. Brian Clarke has lent the company three of his stained glass screens to use in the production, which coupled with our designs will immerse the audience in the narrative, set in the incredible Grand Entrance Hall of the Brunel Museum.
