Brahms: German Requiem and Cello Sonata in E minor

Brahms’s German Requiem, thought to be written in memory of Brahms’s mother, has an air of consolation and repose whilst his Cello Sonata in E minor is full of contrasts: a profoundly soulful first movement and an apparently 'classical' minuet and trio give way to a powerful, muscular and passionate contrapuntal finale. The German Requiem will be performed in a version for choir and piano duet, based on Brahms’s own arrangement of the work.
