  1. Mass No 11 in D minor, 'Nelson Mass' (Missa in angustiis) Hob XXII:11 - (Franz) Joseph Haydn
  2. Symphony No 3 in C Op 52 - Jean Sibelius
  3. In Autumn Op 11 - Edvard Grieg

Haydn's Nelson Mass, also known as the Missa in Augustiis (mass for troubled times) is one of 14 masses written by Haydn and was written towards the end of his life. It is arguably Haydn's greatest single composition and was written at an anxious point in Austria's history when Napoleon had defeated the Autrian army in 4 major battles and was threatening Vienna itself. While he was composing the work, the British army, under Nelson, defeated Napoleon in the Battle of the Nile. This news gradually spread and Nelson himself later visited Austria with Lady Hamilton resulting in the mass becoming known as the Nelson Mass.

Sibelius's Symphony No 3 is in three movements and was composed in 1907. Coming between the romantic intensity of Sibelius's first two symphonies and the more austere complexity of his later symphonies, it is a good-natured, triumphal, and deceptively simple-sounding piece.

Grieg’s concert overture In Autumn is an early work, completed in 1866 during the year Grieg spent in Rome and owes a great deal to the influence of Schumann and Mendelssohn
