Did you know that choir practice is healthier than yoga?

If you are an amateur singer passionate about classical music with some prior experience of choral performance, treat yourself to an uplifting workshop on 16 November in the atmospheric Baroque surroundings of St Botolph-without-Bishopsgate's Church, and come and see what this feel-good choral craze is all about – it's the perfect opportunity to exercise and socialise!

In celebration of the 2019 quatercentenary of Mexican Baroque composer Juan García de Zéspedes (ca. 1619–1678), this one-day workshop will explore a selection of Zéspedes' works alongside others by his fellow Choirmasters at the Puebla Cathedral in Mexico where he was maestro de capilla: Gaspar Fernandes, Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla and Antonio de Salazar. This varied programme of small-scale works will comprise texts in Spanish, Latin, Creole (and Náhuatl!).

You’ll be amazed how quickly you can learn a new piece with the help of our friendly conductor Jagoba Fadrique - one of the UK's most sought-after Spanish singers and specialist Hispanic choral directors. In the UK Fadrique has collaborated with the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields and the Coro Cervantes (with whom he is currently Associate Conductor), and with many of Spain's leading choral ensembles, as well as Early music groups such as the Schola Gregoriana of Cambridge. Appearances include some of the UK's most prestigious venues, including St John’s Smith Square, Wigmore Hall and the Globe. His performances have been broadcast on the BBC, RTVE, RNE, KBS (Korea), NPO (Holland) and he has recorded for numerous labels, including Signum Records, RTVE Música, and NB Musika.

Juan García de Zéspedes Ay que me abraso | Convidando está la noche | Hermoso amor que forxas | Salve Regina
