  3. String Quintet in C Op 29 - Ludwig van Beethoven

The Jerusalem Quartet returns for its second concert at the Beethoven Festival with a selection of music that communicates the depth and complexity of Beethoven’s small-scale string works. The first quartet Beethoven wrote, his Quartet for Strings No 3, has a unique harmonic tension throughout, creating a sense of uncertainty that only resolves at the very end.

Pinchas Zukerman joins the Jerusalem Quartet to perform the only piece written originally as a string quintet that Beethoven put to paper. This rarely-performed work emphasises the richness of the lower strings, aided by a second viola that adds musical depth to the piece.
