Cancelled : Choral Classics: Pergolesi and Martin | New Cambridge Singers

For our Lenten concert, we present two contrasting masterpieces. Swiss composer Frank Martin’s epic Mass for double choir is one of the pinnacles of the choral repertoire: soulful, energetic, rhythmic and achingly powerful by turns. Written in the 1920s, it was not released for publication and performance until some forty years later. Pergolesi’s famous Stabat Mater, a moving and profoundly human picture of a grieving mother composed in the final weeks of Pergolesi’s life, is performed in its version for full choir, accompanied by strings and organ.
