Jacqueline Phillips is a much sought-after and respected professional cellist whose solo, chamber session work has taken her round the UK and overseas. As a recitalist she toured the UK, Dubai and Russia, performing in many venues and churches.
She started playing at the ages of 7 and within 2 years she entered the Royal College of Music Juniors, and then received a full scholarship to study at the prestigious Purcell Music School at the age of 12 .She studied with legendary teachers like Amaryllis Fleming , Joan Dickson and William Pleeth whilst at the Royal College of Music and the Julliard teacher Aldot Perisot at the Banff Centre of the Arts in Canada on a Yehudi Menuhin scholarship .
She is the recipient of many prizes including the Madame Suggia award, first cello prize in the international competition ‘Rovere d’ore’ in Italy and string finalist in the Young Musician of the Year and the Royal Overseas League competition .
She is an extraordinarily versatile musician with a polished technique and instinctive musical flair for a variety of genres. Such is her cool-headed versatility that she has been seen playing solo cello with Soft Cell’s lead man Marc Almond on his 2017 Concert Hall Tour, whilst a few days later performing Shostakovich's Sonata with her pianist Richard Black .
She regularly gives recitals in and around London including a recent performance of Russian music at the Arc Centre that you can view and listen to online.
Jacqueline has given many concerto performances including Boccherini ‘s B flat concerto at the Purcell Room at London’s South Bank Centre and the Walton under the great late Norman Del Mar .
As well as a busy solo and chamber player , she is highly regarded for her orchestral playing, performing with the BBC Concert Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra , guest leading orchestras including the Irish Chamber Orchestra and the London Concert orchestra amongst others .
Since October 2018, Jacqueline has been guest principal of Scottish Opera, performing Verdi’s Rigoletto, Janacek’s Katya Kabanova and Mozart’s The Magic Flute and in November 2019 she gave a concerto appearance with the Hertford Symphony Orchestra.
Daniel King Smith has given concerts all over the world as both soloist and accompanist. He has been broadcast on both BBC TV/Radio in the UK (In Tune, Proms, Young Musician of the Year) and NHK TV/Radio in Japan, most recently in recital with Yuki Ito as part of NHK’s “Best of Classic” and “Classic Club” series. Daniel has recorded a number of CDs, including releases with Yuki Ito for Sony and with Anna Hashimoto on the Meridian label.
As a soloist, Daniel’s extensive concerto repertoire has lead to many concerts in the UK and around Europe. He has frequently been a featured Solo Classical Artist on many Cruise lines around the world.
Accompaniment and chamber music are a major part of Daniel’s life, having held staff accompanist posts at both Royal College of Music and Royal Academy of Music Junior Departments and at the Purcell School. He regularly accompanies auditions, lessons, masterclasses and end of year recitals at the London conservatoires as well as being official accompanist for the Countess of Munster Trust. Daniel gives recitals every year with a number of people who have been accepted onto the Countess of Munster Recital Scheme as well as both the Tillett Trust and Making Music Recital Schemes. He is also official accompanist for the Tunbridge Wells International Young Concert Artists competition. Daniel is often resident pianist on summer music courses including the British Isles Music Festival and Musicale. He has given recitals with Michael Collins, Carmel Kaine, Susan Milan, Robert Max, Yuki Ito and Anna Hashimoto, amongst many others and is a member of the Ridgeway Ensemble.
