In 2014, pianist Eunyoo An, cellist Hoon Sun Chae ,and violinist Jae Hyeong Lee founded the Lux Trio in Berlin, having studied individually at Yewon Middle School and Seoul Art High School in South Korea.
The Lux Trio has won many prizes: the Alice-Samter Stiftung Kammermusikwettbewerb (2016), first prize at the Artsylvia-Foundation Chamber Music Audition 2017 in South Korea, the Gasteig Musikpreis (2018) in Munich followed by the Third Prize, Audience Prize and Best Prize for the interpretation of the commissioned composition, plus two more special prizes at the 62nd ARD Music International Competition in Munich - the first Korean piano trio to achieve this. They went on to win the 2019 international Parkhouse Award at Wigmore Hall.
In 2018 they were awarded a series of recitals at Seoul Arts Centre and, as part of the 'Rising Star Series', at Kumho Art Hall and Artsylvia Hall in Korea. Their first album on the Korean label 'O’new world music' was released in 2018. Several of their concerts have been broadcast by Bayern Broadcasting.
Since 2016, the Lux Trio has worked intensively with Dirk Mommertz and Christoph Poppen at the Hochschule for Music and Theatre, Munich.
The Lux Trio participates in masterclasses with the Fauré Quartett, Eberhard Feltz, Heime Muller, Hariolf Schlichtig and Dirk Mommertz. They have also worked intensively with Priya Mitchell and Mischa Meyer. They were chosen for chamber coaching by the Belcea Quartet from 2018.
Performing regularly in Germany and Korea in concert series and at festivals, they have recently given debut performances in Belgium, Italy and in London. In the 2020-2021 season they will be touring as ARD competition prizewinners, and in Canada. They will make their London debuts at the Purcell Room, Southbank Centre on 22 March 2020 and at Wigmore Hall on 16 October 2020 as winners of the 2019 international Parkhouse Award.
