Immerse yourself in an afternoon of visionary, passionate, and transcendental romantic piano music.

From Beethoven's late and intrinsically lyrical piano Sonata Op 109 in E, enter a world of Liszt, where legends are born and raised. St François de Paule marchant sur les flots, S 175/2 is based on a legend of St Francis of Paola, according to which while trying to cross the Strait of Messina to Sicily, he laid his cloak on the water, tied one end to his staff as a sail, and sailed across the strait with his companions following in the boat. The heavenly cascading waters of Liszt’s Les jeux d’eau de la Villa d’Este creates visions of the famous Renaissance gardens of the Villa d’Este. Rachmaninov's Etudes from Op 39 concludes the concert.
