  1. Also sprach Zarathustra Op 30 - Richard Strauss
  2. Eine Alpensinfonie, 'An Alpine Symphony' Op 64 - Richard Strauss

Orchestral concerts return to The Anvil with a spectacular programme as the Philharmonia Orchestra, under its new Principal Conductor, performs two of Strauss’s most memorable pieces. Also Sprach Zarathustra has one of the most striking openings in all music, which weaves through contrasting episodes before dissolving into an enigmatic ending, poised between two keys. An Alpine Symphony was the composer’s last symphonic poem. More than just a wonderful musical depiction of the events of a day in the mountains, it becomes a heartfelt hymn to creation and man’s place in the natural order.
