Samling Institute for Young Artists is internationally recognised as a leading authority in the training of young voices and song pianists. This showcase recital by six of the many artists who have benefitted from the inspirational Samling Artist Programme over the years celebrates Samling Institute’s 25th anniversary and includes the world premiere of a duet song cycle by Jonathan Dove, commissioned for the occasion.

Dove’s cycle Man, Woman, Child sets poetry by the acclaimed Australian writer Judith Wright and will be performed by soprano Alexandra Lowe, tenor Filipe Manu and pianist James Baillieu. The title of this spirited and tender cycle gives inspiration to a programme celebrating song and poetry in English, including Vaughan Williams’s Four Last Songs (sung by mezzo-soprano Kitty Whately), Richard Rodney Bennett’s Songs before Sleep (sung by William Thomas), settings of Thomas Hardy by Gerald Finzi, Benjamin Britten folksong arrangements and songs by Roger Quilter, Elizabeth Maconchy, Margaret Bonds, Eric Coates and Ivor Novello.

This recital highlights Samling Institute’s unique contribution over the past 25 years to nurturing the brightest and the best of young classical singers and pianists nationally and internationally.
