  1. Hamlet S104 - Franz Liszt
  2. Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No 3 in G, 'Strassburg' K 216 - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
  3. Symphony No 2 in D Op 43 - Jean Sibelius

Described by the Herald Tribune as ‘charismatic, brilliant [and] energetic’, conductor Anu Tali makes a welcome return to the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for a programme that explores vibrant soundworlds. Sibelius’s Symphony No 2 conjures images of rugged, icy Nordic landscapes but is also full of optimism, with a series of short motifs that grow and develop towards a triumphant conclusion, interpreted by many as an unrelenting call for his country’s independence.

Liszt’s Hamlet weaves together drama and tragedy in a symphonic poem that depicts the Shakespearean hero, before award-winning Hungarian soloist Barnabás Kelemen performs Mozart’s Violin Concerto No 3.
