  1. The Dream of Gerontius Op 38 - Sir Edward Elgar

Join the Vivace Chorus for our first live concert since March 2020! We’re back with a bang, singing the fantastic The Dream of Gerontius by British composer, Edward Elgar. Full of drama, the piece follows the soul of Gerontius from his deathbed to judgement before God, eventually coming to rest in Purgatory.

Composed shortly after a rapturous welcome for his Enigma Variations, The Dream of Gerontius is said to be Elgar’s finest choral work – and many think it is his masterpiece. The roles of Gerontius himself, and of The Angel, are highly sought-after among soloists and we are delighted to have the talents of Rebekah Jones (mezzo-soprano), Rhys Batt (tenor) and Thomas Nießer (baritone).

This is a fantastic choice for a return to live choral singing – a full choir, semi chorus, large orchestra and three fantastic soloists will fill Dorking Halls with music, taking the audience on a journey of fear, faith, doubt and revelation. After more than 18 months without choral concerts, this is a date to put in your diary!
