  1. Quintet for guitar and string quartet Op 143 - Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco
  2. L'histoire du tango - Astor Piazzolla

Bask in the sound of the Spanish guitar in this programme selected by members of the Philharmonia, joined by acclaimed guitarist Katalin Koltai.

The charming guitar quintet by Castelnuovo-Tedesco is a gem that brings to mind balmy Mediterranean evenings, dreamy and nostalgic. Listen out for the theme ‘Souvenir d’Espagne’ – a jaunty, sunny tune that’s very tempting to clap to.

From Spain we travel to the smoke-filled cafés and nightclubs of Buenos Aires for L'histoire du tango. This is Astor Piazzolla’s passionate love letter to the quintessentially Argentinian musical form, which he worked all his life to renew and bring to a global audience.
