The popular Piccadilly Chamber Music Series is delighted to present five candlelit concerts from January to July 2022 at St James’s Piccadilly, exploring the chamber music of Johannes Brahms alongside music of other great romantic composers who influenced this towering genius, or who were influenced by Brahms himself.

The second programme in the series features two virtuoso works by romantic composers and friends Chopin and Mendelssohn, whose music and pianism were enormous influences on Brahms’ own music. This is set against a 20th century masterpiece of British romanticism, by Frank Bridge whose Phantasie Trio is imbued with grand melodic lines, rich harmonies and athletic pianism of Brahms. Brahms’s own beautiful Intermezzo in A major for solo piano is included by way of soothing contrast. Violin virtuoso Harriet Mackenzie is joined by the brilliant cellist, Cara Berridge of the renowned Sacconi Quartet and concert pianist Warren Mailley-Smith for this evening’s magical programme.

Set in the heart of London’s West End, The Piccadilly Chamber Music Series provides an exciting new platform for some of the UK’s most outstanding musicians and a new opportunity for Londoners to hear some of the world’s greatest chamber music masterpieces performed in an inspiring setting. Each concert provides a unique opportunity for audiences to hear some of the UK’s greatest musicians in concert with each other in displays of enormous virtuosity and sublime calmness!
