  1. Make we merry - David Bednall
  2. Christmas carols - Traditional

Kingston Choral Society returns to St Andrews Church, Maple Road, Surbiton at 7.30pm on Saturday, 18 December, almost two years to the day since their Christmas 2019 concert, the last before the pandemic hit. Although we still live under the cloud of covid 19, Christmas is a time of celebration, and the concert will embody that spirit by featuring Make we merry, a work by contemporary composer, David Bednall, alongside traditional Christmas carols.

Make we merry’s eight movements weave together texts from across the centuries to depict a host of emotions, from quiet expectance and gentle wonder to boisterous jubilation. The final movement brings back motifs from the opening and grows to a thrillingly climactic ending.

The audience will have the opportunity to join with the choir in singing some old favourites, and to enjoy drinks and mince pies in the interval.

Andrew Griffiths, the widely respected Kingston Choral Society musical director, will conduct and Aeron Glyn-Preston will perform the highly characterful organ accompaniment.

Make a note in your diaries to join Kingston Choral Society in Making Merry on 18 December.

Tickets are on sale for £7-£14 online, phone, or on the door from 7pm on the night.
