Fantasia Orchestra: Christmas Night

Brighten up those dark December nights with the strings of Fantasia Orchestra and highly-acclaimed soloist Richard Hosford, for a candlelit concert exploring the evocative theme of ‘Night’ this Christmas.

For one magical evening, Grand Junction at St Mary Magdalene's will be illuminated by candlelights as the Orchestra perform a selection of much-loved classical pieces, including seasonal favourites: Bathe in the moonlight with Debussy’s iconic Clair de lune, in the starlight of the Nativity with Warlock’s popular carol Bethlehem Down, and in the dappled nighttime forest of Schoenberg’s stunning Verklärte Nacht. Finzi’s Clarinet Concerto, a gem of the English repertoire, encompasses light and shade and is an inspiring force.

Led by British conductor Tom Fetherstonhaugh, Fantasia Orchestra is formed of the UK's most talented, sought-after young musicians and for one-night-only they will be joined by the delights of the clarinet, performed by Richard Hosford, soloist and principal clarinet of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Together they will make music to fill the nooks and crannies of our magnificent Neo-Gothic church.
