Championing young ensembles of piano with strings for 30 years, the Parkhouse Award celebrates its anniversary with a performance at St John’s Smith Square by its newest winner, Trio Bohémo from the Czech Republic.

Embracing their vibrant heritage they will perform piano trios by Dvorák – his much-loved ‘Dumky’ trio Op 90 in E minor, Haydn’s C major trio Hob XV:27, the first in a set of three trios that were written for piano with string accompaniment, which explains the dominance of the piano, but the high spirits of the last movement involve all three instruments in a vigorous display. The concert runs straight through without an interval and ends with Liszt’s expansive and lively Hungarian Rhapsody No. 12, ‘Carneval de Pest’ based on themes he had heard in western Hungary and believed to be folk tunes.

Since 2020 Trio Bohemo has been part of the European Chamber Music Academy, studying under the guidance of professors such as Hatto Beyerle, Patrick Jüdt, Johannes Meissl, Avedis Kouyoumdjian and Dirk Mommertz. The opportunities provided by the European Chamber Music Academy enabled them to perform at multiple stages across Europe.

The highlights of the 2021/2022 season include their debut in the Musikverein in Vienna and recitals at festivals such as Lago Maggiore Musica in Italy, Gent Festival van Vlaanderen in Belgium, Schwarzwald Musikfestival in Germany and the Prague Spring Festival in the Czech Republic. They have been invited to join the 2022 Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme.
