To celebrate the start the group's residency at the University Church, Stile Antico gives the first performance of a new programme: The Mystic Rose. The programme explores glorious music written in honour of Mary, the Church’s dedicatee, with a selection of music from all over Europe, spanning three centuries from Josquin to Monteverdi. Alongside motets by the likes of Byrd, Parsons, Aleotti, Palestrina, and Lhéritier, are settings of the four great Marian antiphons written by Victoria, Palestrina, Lassus and William Cornysh, and the programme is crowned by Robert White’s magnificent setting of the Magnificat.
