Milton Keynes City Church Choir and Instrumentalists return after a two year covid break with their annual Good Friday musical reflection. The Stabat Mater is a 13th century devotional poem about the Virgin Mary's vigil by Christ's cross, and Antonio Caldara's setting is one of the most beautiful and expressive. The text is shared out among a twelve-movement structure, in which the choral movements act as pillars linked by arching episodes for the soloists. The episodes are coloured by different combinations of voices and accompanying instruments.

The second of the three pieces to be performed is Rutter's Out of the deep, from his Requiem. A short reflection is followed by Tucapsky's The Sacrifice, a cantata for chorus and organ in seven sections setting verses from a devotional poem by George Herbert.

Entry is free, with a retiring collection to help cover our costs.

The evening with conclude around 9pm.
